Recently, I completed my foundations training in Thai Yoga Massage under the enchanting instruction of Sharon Brown-Horton owner of the Banyan Thai Massage (affiliate of the ITM School of Chang Mai). At the beginning of each Thai massage, a prayer is said:

Na a Na wa Roka Payati Vinas Santi

Translated: We pray for the one whom we touch that he/she will be happy and that any illness will be released from him/her.

There are numerous chants and prayers invoked at the beginning of each different type of yoga practice as well. It inspired me to write my own prayer. I generally take a few deep breaths before I even utter a single word before teaching a class to centre myself and come from a place of peace. That activity now expanded would include this prayer:

I come whole as your yoga teacher, authentic, vulnerable and still learning. I teach people, not poses. I respect each person's path.

Please let me know what you think and leave a comment below. If you also have a prayer or mantra that you like to use, please share.
